Bra Coverage Guide: Demi Cup vs. Perfect Coverage vs. Full Coverage

November 21, 2024

by Sophie Weiss

We are living in a time when we are blessed with a plethora of bra styles. How lucky are we? The only down side is that, with so many options, it can be difficult to know which style is right for you and how each bra differs from one another. If your curiosity has led you to this blog post, congrats — you've landed in the right place.

When it comes to the basics, bra cup coverage is an essential place to start. The three main cup coverage levels we're going to explore are: 1) Demi cup bras, 2) Perfect coverage bras, and 3) Full coverage bras.

Let's dive in!

Demi Cup Bras

The term "demi" is derived from the French word for "half." In the context of bras, a demi style refers to cups that cover about half to three-quarters of the breast, sitting lower on the chest compared to full coverage styles. Many push-up bras are made in a demi cup because it exposes the most breast tissue.

Demi cups are the most versatile style since they offer a lower amount of coverage. Break these out when you have a low-cut shirt or if you’re someone who doesn’t need a ton of support.

Popular Demi Cup Styles

There are many styles of bra that offer demi cups. These are some great options to start with:

  • Lightly lined demi cups offer a bit of nipple coverage and subtle shaping without adding bulk.

  • Demi push-up bras have angled padding in the cups to enhance cleavage and create a lifted, rounded shape.

  • Unlined demi bras offer a natural look and feel, allowing the breasts to take on their own shape.

  • Strapless demi bras are designed for shoulder-baring tops and dresses.

  • Plunge demi bras have an angled center panel that dips low in the front, ideal for deep V-necklines.

  • Demi bralettes combine the trendy, unstructured look of a bralette with the lower coverage of a demi cup, often in a wire-free triangle shape.

Perfect Coverage Bras

Perfect coverage bras offer a happy medium amount of coverage. This style still provides a high level of support and coverage, but it’s a little more compatible with your wardrobe since it gives a slightly lower neckline.

A perfect coverage bra is an excellent choice for someone who needs a higher level of support, but still wants to show off a bit of cleavage.

Full Coverage Bras

As you can probably guess from the name, full coverage bras mean the bra cup will almost fully encircle your breast, giving minimal to no cleavage depending on your breast size and offering maximum support.

If you’re looking for maximum lift, this is a great option. It’s also wonderful if you’re wearing something tight and high cut, because you won’t have any risk of the bra cup cutting into your breast tissue and creating lines or bulges.
